This article describes personal financial management from a systems perspective. The basic elements of a management system—object and subject—are identified. Financial resources are the object of management, and the management process addresses the formation and use of financial resources. A key characteristic of management is that it is performed by the individual. Decision-making is influenced by numerous factors, including psychological ones. The content of management is revealed through functions, which are specifically defined for personal finances. Information, financial instruments and methods, as well as software products and services, are considered as elements of the system.
