The article presents the results of an experimental study of psychological separation of first-year students from their parents in connection with their adaptation to studying at a university. The connections between the components of psychological separation of first-year students in relationships with their mother and father and the level of their social, didactic and professional adaptation to the university were established. Connections were found between first-year students adaptation to the study group and emotional and functional separation; adaptation to educational activities and conflictological, attitudinal, and functional separation. The peculiarities of psychological separation of first-year students from their parents were revealed, manifested in a higher level of their conflictological, emotional, attitudinal and functional separation from their father than from their mother.
