The aim of this study is to uncover the mechanisms and stages of the evolution of the social perception of tattoos in contemporary Russian culture, tracing their transformation. This article examines the historical preconditions for the negative perception of tattoo practices associated with the criminal subculture of the Soviet period and analyzes the factors of cultural transformation in the 1990s and 2000s, including the influence of the Western cultural revolution, the mediatization of tattooed celebrities, and the professionalization of the industry. The scientific novelty lies in the comprehensive interdisciplinary analysis of the sociocultural determinants of the legitimization of tattoo practices, taking into account the specifics of the Russian cultural context and the impact of digitalization on the transformation of the body. As a result, the main stages in the evolution of tattoo perceptions are identified and the ambivalence of contemporary attitudes toward these practices is determined, manifested in the coexistence of artistic recognition with elements of social stigma.
