The article is devoted to the study of the dualism of the legal status of political parties as institutions occupying an intermediate position between civil society and the state mechanism. Based on a comparative legal analysis, the key differences between the Western (autonomous) and Eastern (strictly regulated) models of party systems are identified. Particular attention is paid to the legal nature of parties, combining private and public law elements, as well as their functions in implementing the constitutional right to association and forming government bodies. Modern challenges are considered, including a crisis of confidence in parties and the need for a balance between their autonomy and state control. In conclusion, directions for improving party legislation are proposed, taking into account current trends in legal development.
