Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a clinical syndrome characterized by microalbuminuria (MAU) or proteinuria, progressive decline in glomerular filtration rate (GFR), the development or strengthening of arterial hypertension (AH).
It is known that the impaired function of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) plays a key role in the pathogenesis of chronic kidney disease. Due to the constant stimulation from the RAAS, the pressure increase in the glomerular capillaries, which is accompanied by oxidative stress and activation of pro-inflammatory signaling pathways. These reactions lead to glomerular hypertrophy that occurs in the early stages of diabetic nephropathy, and initiates the beginning Profibrotic stage.
