Treatment of partial injuries of the anterior cruciate ligament with plasma enriched in platelets

Kostava Tengiz Vakhtangovich  (Applicant, National medical research center of traumatology and orthopedics named after N.N. Priorov)

Anterior cruciate ligament refers to the most commonly damaged structure in the knee joint, spontaneous recovery of which is impossible. An immature population of fibroblasts is not able to re-create a connective tissue scar at the site of ligament rupture without the preliminary formation of a fibrin skeleton (matrix). The use of biological methods for accelerating healing processes, namely, the use of a platelet-rich plasma fulfilling the function of a "biological glue", is becoming the most actual at present. The use of this method contributes to early recovery and return to professional activity of the majority of patients.

Keywords:platelet enriched plasma, knee joint, anterior cruciate ligament, growth factors, fibrin skeleton.
