Using self-report studies for measuring the "dark figure" of crime in the USA

The primary objective of this article is to examine the self-report method of measuring criminal behavior in the US. Self-report studies are one of the three main methods used for getting information about crime in the United States. For carrying out this task it is necessary to investigate the origins of the self-report method and its further development. Then some advantages and disadvantages of this technique are reviewed in the present paper. Besides, some results of several of these studies are analyzed.
