The impact of Multinational corporations on the environmental situation in Vietnam

The article provides an overview of the impact of Multinational corporations on the environmental situation in Vietnam. The author looks at the regulatory framework of environmental regulation and its actual implementation; methods of foreign companies to minimize their environmental costs, the use of backward and environmentally harmful technologies and equipment. The article provides the analysis of the ecological situation in industrial areas that accumulate the greatest number of attracted foreign capital. The Government's policy on decentralization of licensing investment projects is highlighted as a factor which plays a negative role in attracting so-called “dirty” investment projects. The author concludes that, despite some benefits of the Vietnamese economy from investment of Multinational corporation, the continuation of indiscriminate FDI policy and poor environmental control can have a negative impact on economic growth of the country in the future.
