The article reveals the operational-search characterization of crimes against life and health committed in correctional colonies. In the course of the study, a formal logical method was used, a system analysis of the norms of Russian legislation, and comparative jurisprudence. The authors analyzed the composition of crimes against life and health committed in correctional colonies, the causes and ways of their fulfillment are examined. Criminological characteristics of convicts who committed this type of crime are given. The authors emphasize that the operational-search characterization of crimes against life and health should be dynamic and constantly replenish, as criminals use increasingly sophisticated methods of committing and concealing them.
