The study is devoted to the creation of the Soviet tea industry. Industrial tea growing originated in the Russian Empire 20 years before the revolution, but intensive development and development was received only in the times of the USSR, before which the problem of replacing imported products with a local product was acute. Russia's contacts with China became the basis for transferring the experience of tea growing, and the seedlings and seed fund were supplied from the tea provinces of the eastern neighbor to bookmark future Russian plantations. Between the 1920s and the 1980s, Soviet tea plantations grew almost 100 times, and production practically reached the country's total provision with its own tea. The article presents data on tea imports and growth of own production, analyzed the causes, premises, and the results of intensive development of the tea industry.
