Any state, including Russia, is faced with the problem of crime. One of the traditional ways of deterring it, which is used in almost any state, is the placement of the perpetrator in places of deprivation of liberty. At the same time, the form of isolation of a person from society in the penitentiary system of each state is implemented individually. Russia has historically followed the path of mass detention of criminals in prisons, which led to the organization of a specific micro-social structure among convicts, which is inherent in its cultural values, rules and traditions that differ from those adopted in society. These aspects, characteristic of the "prison community" undoubtedly have a significant impact on the Outlook of the convicted person, as well as his line of behavior both during his stay in prison and after serving the prescribed sentence. As practice shows, the experience gained by the convict in places of detention leads to the socialization of his personality, and to the difficulty of entering into a full life of society after serving the sentence of the court. In addition, the very socialization of the personality of the convicted person in places of detention suggests the need for work aimed at his re-socialization, before release, for entry into society. These aspects make it necessary to study the existing form of isolation of convicts in places of deprivation of liberty in order to develop proposals for the humanization of the conditions of serving the sentence of convicts in the form of deprivation of liberty, as well as to reduce the negative impact on the personality of the convicted person. The author considers in the article the reasons and conditions that influence the criminalization of the convicted person in places of imprisonment and suggests ways to neutralize this phenomenon.
