In the article factors of efficiency of employees' activity, bases of career development, factors of a choice of a direction of training by students of a direction management and the economy are considered. The results of the study of the direction of development in childhood by students in the direction of economics and management are presented. The methods of vocational orientation of schools in relation to students of the first and second courses in the direction of economics and management at the St. Petersburg University of Communications have been studied. Approaches to the typology of careers by scientists are presented. The scheme for building a professional career is presented. The competence approach in personnel assessment is considered. The concepts of competence, competence, ability, and possession are disassembled. The problems of a competent approach in the evaluation of learning outcomes are determined. Career techniques are formulated. Explained career techniques, the order of their application. The dependence of children's activities in school and preschool age on the preferences, material opportunities and free time of parents is revealed.
