The article deals with the determinant basis of the emergence of an independent direction - forensic technical expertise - an expert study of the premises as an object when considering the issue of suitability for living. The author examines the legislation, law enforcement practice. The main types of studies conducted in the assessment of housing and the question of its suitability for living are classified. Analyzed the individual provisions of special rules and regulations in this area.
