From paradigm to ecosystem of leadership in higher education

Modern transformation of society and its institutions caused by exponential growth of data and information technologies, i.e. global digitalization of all spheres of activities, energizes the forces able to promote transformation and progress. Since knowledge is the main source of economic growth, education has become a precondition of social, economic and intellectual prosperity. Higher education is on the attacking end of social and economic development. Educational leaders face the challenge of taking the lead of change. The aim of this research is to analyze the models of transformational leadership in higher education in the age of digitalization and identify the sources of leadership efforts. As an object of multidisciplinary studies, leadership is reviewed form psychological, pedagogical, social, managerial perspectives as well as in the context of complexity science, which enables the authors to identify the rules of validation of the phenomenon of ‘leadership’ in the period of digitizing all segments of a higher educational institution.
