Prospects for challenging international economic sanctions in the context of Russia’s obligations to the WTO

The article is devoted to the analysis of the issues of the effectiveness of countering sanctions pressure exerted on Russia in the context of its obligations to the WTO. Based on the analysis of the sources of international law, as well as the provisions formulated at the level of domestic and foreign doctrine, the author determines the legal nature of international economic sanctions, analyzes the potential for challenging them by diplomatic and judicial instruments. As a result of the study, the author comes to the conclusion that despite the very limited potential of the tools available in the international arena to counter the sanctions policy, state authorities in the field of foreign policy, as well as representatives of the Russian business community should build up the practice of interaction between entities interested in maintaining the world trade balance and participation of the Russian side in it.
