The article is devoted to an urgent problem of our time – the inconsistency and divergence of goals in trade and economic relations between the United States and Canada. Both countries are leaders in creating an open economy based on the rules of the multilateral trading system, characterized by mutual concessions regarding market access for goods and services, as well as discipline regarding trade restrictions and mandatory dispute settlement mechanisms. The purpose of this work is to investigate exactly how interactions between these countries are built in the market, in addition, to investigate the causal relationship of the emergence of disagreements between the two countries. The scientific novelty of the work consists in considering the issue of the interrelation of the studied countries not only on the basis of recently signed agreements, but also with the involvement of the opinions and works of modern experts in the field of international trade. The study notes the shift in relations between Canada and the United States caused by global China as one of the problems, and also analyzes the dependence of the Canadian economy on the economy of the United States of America. As a result of the study, the need for continued cooperation between the United States and Canada on a wide range of issues was justified, which reflects the extensive ties of these countries and the close working relationship between the institutions.
