The article defines the features of legal regulation of socially oriented NGOs. The authors logically build a study, starting from the specification of the status and criteria of "social orientation", identifying the specifics of this type of NGO in the civil sector of public activity and finally determining the prospects for improving the legislative regulation of the activities of NGOs. In addition, the work uses empirical data obtained during the study of the functioning of socially oriented organizations in the Volgograd region.
