In the post-Soviet period, the issue of restitution was one of the most important in the sphere of state-confessional relations. The laws adopted during this period did not fundamentally resolve the issue of restitution of church property taken away or destroyed under Soviet rule. In general, it should be recognized that there is no unconditional return to the Church of its movable and immovable property as before the start of mass confiscations in 1918, i.e. restitution in the full sense of the term, as the Church hoped for.
