Increasingly, criminals are using cryptocurrencies for illegal activities such as money laundering. The key problem that needs to be solved is the anonymity of cryptocurrencies, ranging from complete to pseudo-anonymity, preventing proper monitoring and allowing shadow transactions to occur outside the regulatory perimeter, and criminal organizations to use cryptocurrencies to gain easy access to "clean cash". As for the blockchain, it would be too straightforward to link it to money laundering. This is just a technology on which a larger number of cryptocurrencies work. Blockchain has many uses in the legitimate economy. It would be unwise to hinder future innovations in this regard by imposing onerous requirements on the blockchain, simply because one of the applications using this technology is being used illegally by some.
