Currently, a large number of international economic sanctions have been imposed and are in effect against the Russian Federation. They relate to trade, finance, as well as key technologies and technological components. This poses a number of urgent challenges to the country both at the national and regional levels. The article explores the potential of the sustainable development model to overcome these challenges at the regional level. On the example of the Kamchatka Territory, the possibilities and prospects of transition to sustainable development are shown to increase the efficiency of the regional economy as a response to the sanctions challenge.
