Forensic profiling is a means of investigating crimes. Its components are a large number of psychological profiling techniques in order to optimize the search activity. This article highlights: the method of profiling in the investigation of serial killers, the stages of analyzing the behavior of criminals and the signs of serial killers. One of the most effective and developing methods, from the point of view of actualization, is the "profiling method", which, in turn, was first applied in the middle of the 20th century by drawing up a kind of psychological portrait of a person suspected of committing a criminal act and, nevertheless, despite its prospects, only to By the 50s of the 20th century, the idea of using this method was implemented to a certain extent in law enforcement activities. The importance of the considered method for the investigation, as well as for the prevention of mass crimes, is noted, it makes it possible to form an appropriate theoretical knowledge base and experience, which, in turn, will allow to operate with well-established and generally accepted concepts of "serial crimes", as well as "serial criminals". This will contribute to the development and improvement of "profiling".
