The modern consolidation of the principle of personal equality in democratic countries of the world at the constitutional (state) level is connected both with the centuries-old history of its formation and with the dynamic development of human civilization, the expansion of the circle of its subjects, changes in their social and legal status, and the direct transformation of the content of the principle itself. In the article, through the prism of studying individual scientific political and legal views of outstanding thinkers of the past, the general theoretical component of the content of the principle of personal equality is revealed and analyzed, its significance for the entire world community is assessed, which initially recognized this principle at the national level, elevated it to the rank of universal principles, enshrined in key international acts on human rights and freedoms.
