The article suggested reveals the essence and content of bioeconomy, highlighting the elements both necessary and sufficient for its development in the modern world. Renewable biological resources themselves, a convergent approach to technology and knowledge in the field of biotechnology, as well as an integrated approach to the production and use of bioproducts in various branches of the economy are among them. The author justifies the position that the modern concept of bioeconomics should be based on an optimal model of sustainable development, providing for equality and interactive interaction of three components: economic, environmental and social. The importance of a knowledge pool when developing bioeconomy is also emphasized, especially taking into account its multidisciplinary focus. The main part of the article concentrates upon the analysis of four branches of bioeconomy, some of which have already reached the commercial status. The areas being explored, include regenerative agriculture, vertical farming, organic production, and bioenergy. At the same time, both global achievements and development constraints, as well as issues related to the practical application of related bioeconomical activities in Russia.
