The article examines the theoretical and legal aspect of control functions through the prism of social organization and public administration. The purpose of the study is to consider the functions of control from the standpoint of an established concept within the framework of the theory of state and law, identifying the internal and external functions of the object of study. The article consistently substantiates the thesis that control functions are determined by the form of a normatively fixed, conscious and socially approved process of functioning and development of the entire system of public administration. In conclusion, it is concluded that the external and internal functions of control correspond to the functions of any social system; they systematically, systematically and consistently form social processes that are socially beneficial to a specific state legal regime, thereby stimulating the progressive or regressive development of society and the state.
