The article considers the importance of CO2 capture and storage as one of the priority methods of decarbonization. Carbon capture and geological storage is a bridging technology that will help mitigate climate change. It involves capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) from industrial plants, transporting it to a storage site and injecting it into a suitable underground geological formation for permanent storage purposes. EU strategic goal for 2030 is to create capacities for storing carbon dioxide of at least 50 ml. tons per year. To create such an infrastructure, it is necessary to develop special regulations. The authors analyzed the European experience of legal regulation in this area, identified the main documents and gave a brief description of each of them.

Keywords:СО2, capture and storage, CCS, European policy, directives, Norway.
