Cryptocurrencies are a new type of money, an intermediary of exchange and a financial asset that first appeared almost two decades ago in 2008 with the creation of Bitcoin, and since then their importance and popularity have only grown. Cryptocurrencies as a phenomenon have brought many new technologies and innovations that are now gradually being introduced into many different aspects of our lives, and therefore it is difficult to compromise or ignore their importance in modern society and especially in the future of the global financial system. Due to the numerous technological features, cryptocurrencies have a number of advantages and disadvantages when it comes to discussing their use in the context of international settlements, moreover, cryptocurrencies as a broader term cover several subcategories.
