The paper reveals the main contents of pre-revolutionary charity, which is dedicated to the family members of fallen soldiers and their memory. The paper explored the period from the founding of Saint Petersburg to the Russian Revolution of 1917. Both regulatory legal acts and scientific literature were considered in detail. The paper identifies and discusses various stages of charity work of the Romanov's representatives towards the families of fallen soldiers. In addition, the paper shows development of the systems of various institutions that deal with caring for the members of fallen soldiers' families.
