THE 1864 REFORM AND ITS IMPACT ON THE FORMATION OF THE PROFESSIONAL ADVOCACY IN RUSSIA

The judicial reform of 1864 occupies a special place in the history of Russian statehood as one of the most radical and successful reforms of the Alexander II era. Among the most important achievements of this reform should be emphasized the creation of the institute of sworn attorneys - professional advocacy, which for the first time in Russian history received a clear legal form and independent status. The purpose of the study is to analyze the impact of the judicial reform of 1864 on the formation of professional advocacy in Russia, to identify the basic principles of organization of the institute of sworn attorneys and to assess their importance for the development of the legal system of the Russian Empire.
