FEATURES OF CORRECTIONAL LABOR POLICY TOWARDS JUVENILE OFFENDERS AFTER STALIN'S DEATH

Uporov I. V.  (Doctor of History, Candidate of Law, Professor, Russian Academy of Natural Sciences Krasnodar )

The Soviet government's attitude toward juvenile offenders during the Soviet era was ambiguous. Immediately after the October Revolution of 1917, a clear course was taken toward humanizing repressive measures against this category of offenders. However, from the turn of the 1930s, punishments were significantly toughened, and the conditions of imprisonment for juveniles differed little from those for adults. During the Great Patriotic War (from 1943), the state demonstrated a tendency toward lenient punishments. But this trend gained particular momentum after Stalin's death, when the well-known "Thaw" period began. This article explores the specifics of this period through an analysis of the relevant legal acts governing the conditions of imprisonment for juvenile offenders in the second half of the 1950s.

Keywords:juvenile offenders, imprisonment, punishment, legality, re-education, juvenile colonies
