Purpose. Skeletal fluorosis, a disease caused by chronic fluoride exposure, is likely to affect the level of genotoxic effects. The aim of the study was to assess the frequency of clastogenic effects in workers of aluminum production of patients with fluorosis. Methods. The material for the study was the venous blood of workers of Novokuznetsk aluminum plant suffering from fluorosis and the control group without pathology. The frequency of clastogenic effects in blood leukocytes was estimated using the chromosomal aberration (CA) method. Results. The marked increase in the frequency of HA, aberrations of chromosomal type, pairs of fragments and the atypical monocentrics in the group with fluorosis. Summary. The observed increase in the level of chromosomal type aberrations in workers with skeletal fluorosis is probably associated with oxidative stress caused by disturbances in the activity of enzymatic systems.

Keywords:skeletal fluorosis, chromosomal aberrations, oxidative stress
