Improving the efficiency of solving the tasks of shiphandling in narrows when using marine 3-D electronic navigation charts

Prokhorenkov Andrei A  (Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Assistant professor, Federal State Educational Institution of Higher Education "Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping" (Saint-Petersburg))

One of the most advanced achievements of science and technology, which allows to improve safety of vessel navigation in narrowsw is the use of electronic chart display and information systems (ECDIS). A large number of publications are devoted to the practice of working with ECDIS and the benefits derived from this, which confirms their high importance in the practice of vessel control. In the last decade, new cartographic systems have been used to improve the quality of monitoring the passage of vessels by shore based vessel traffic and management systems, which use sea 3-d electronic navigation charts, which is new. Features of their use by operators of by shore based vessel traffic and management systems, are fully covered in periodicals. The use of 3-d charts directly by navigators when navigating through narrows can also increase navigation safety. This article analyzes the use of new features of the virtual environment directly by navigators.

Keywords:shiphandling, navigation safety of navigation in narrows, use of ECDIS, marine 3-d electronic navigation charts, virtual reality, visual positioning of the vessel.
