The inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) is one of the most important structures in dental practice. IAN paresthesia can occur after various dental procedures, such as simple anesthetic injections, surgical procedures and endodontic treatment, and are reported to range from 0.35% to 8.4%. The purpose of the literature review is to examine current hypotheses about the etiology and prevention of damage to the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) in connection with dental procedures.
