The influence of hormonal therapy on osseointegration of dental implants

Currently, indications for the use of titanium implants in a larger number of patients in dentistry are increasing. The number of patients taking hormone therapy for various reasons is also increasing. Despite the good rates of regeneration of these implants, there are still difficulties that lead to important socio-economic consequences. Recently, there have been many studies related to the improvement of implant regeneration, a process called osseointegration. The research focuses on a new innovative area: systemic drug delivery. After implant placement, patients receive systemic drugs that can worsen or enhance osseointegration. The purpose of this literature review is to discuss the different effects of hormone therapy on the osseointegration of dental implants. This descriptive study considers the following criteria in publications over the past 5 years: clinical studies on healthy animals, as well as animals that have comorbidities (rats, rabbits, dogs); priority was used English-language articles published in the dental literature. Selected publications were translated from English to Russian.
