Antioxidant enzymes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

In this article, we study antioxidant enzymes and their relationship with the protection against oxidation of free radicals associated with a chronic disease. Since time immemorial, the mechanisms and concept of antioxidants have been expanded. Stress is the cause of 80% of diseases. Moreover, chronic diseases themselves are stress for a person. In recent years, free radical processes that start in stressful conditions have been actively studied. Oxidative stress is the molecular mechanism of disease development. Protection against the damaging effects of free radicals is provided primarily by special antioxidant enzymes: superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, enzymes of the redox system of glutathione and others. Normally, the oxidant-antioxidant system maintains equilibrium. Violation of this balance in favor of oxidants and leads to the development of oxidative stress. In the course of the work, the degree of free-radical characteristics was determined in the EBC for painful COPD during an exacerbation of the disease and subsequent healing, the energies of catalase and superoxide dismutase in the EBC in healthy people and in painful COPD were determined. The results obtained made it possible to assess the position of the oxidizing - antioxidant system in painful COPDs in the Vladimir Region.
