The analysis of the criteria for assessing the safety of sewage sludge application for agricultural crops is given. On the example of long-term experience in the use of sediment, the features of soil bioassay techniques, changes in test reactions of test organisms in conditions correlating with the changing bioavailability of contaminants in the soil matrix are shown.
