The role of neurotransmitter receptors genes in the development of antipsychotic-induced side effects in schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is a severe endogenous mental disorder with a high progression and severity of the consequences. The main treatment strategy for schizophrenia is the use of antipsychotic drugs, which, along with the main antipsychotic effect, have a wide range of side effects. The review presents and systematizes literature data on the role of genes of neurotransmitter (dopaminergic, serotonergic, muscarinic and glutamate) receptors in the pathogenesis of the main side effects of antipsychotics: tardive dyskinesia, hyperprolactinemia and metabolic disorders.
