A retrospective analysis of 200 pregnancy case records, health histories of newborns, birth histories and the results of a histological study of placentae was carried out. All patients were divided into two groups: the main group included n=97 women gave birth to newborns in a state of severe asphyxia and the comparison group n=103 patients who gave birth to newborns with an Apgar score of 8-9. As a result of the study features of pregnancy and childbirth affecting adverse perinatal outcomes were identified. These features include a burdened obstetric and gynecological history of abortion, a burdened somatic history of cardiovascular disease and impaired fat metabolism, a late arrival to the women's consultation clinic, the presence of abnormality revealed at the first and third ultrasound examination, admission to an obstetric hospital with "immature" birth canals, high frequency of programmed delivery and, consequently, termination of delivery surgically and by vacuum extraction of the fetus.
