Comparative evaluation of the time of manufacture of frames of metal-ceramic artificial crown, are created using traditional and digital technologies

Aim – conduct a comparative assessment of the time spent by a dental orthopedist and a dental technician for the manufacture of metal-ceramic artificial crowns obtained using digital and traditional technologies. The patients were divided into two groups according to the method of manufacturing metal –ceramic artificial crown frames-using the KaVo ARCTIC CAD/CAM system made of titanium billet Titan-Blank and the traditional laboratory casting method. The Mann-Whitney W-test was used for statistical analysis of the results obtained. In total, 40 medicinal artificial crowns were made, 20 in each group. Based on the data obtained, it was found that for the production of a metal-ceramic crown frame using CAD/CAM KaVo ARCTICA, the dentist, orthopedist and dental technician must spend-53,2 ± 3,503 min., using the laboratory method-149,30 ± 5,204 min. The obtained data allowed us to conclude that the production of the metal-ceramic artificial crown frame using modern digital technologies (CAD/CAM systems, intraoral laser scanning and 3D printer) requires 2,8 times less time compared to traditional casting methods (p<0,0166667).
