The effectiveness of statin therapy for patients with high cardiovascular risk. The use of statins in clinical practice: concomitant diseases and complications

Statins ( GMC-CoA reductase inhibitors) are the first-line drugs for the treatment of dyslipidemia , which have been used in cardiology since the end of the 20th century and during this time have managed to prolong the lives of many millions of patients . This article reveals the relevance of the use of statin therapy in order to reduce the level of low -density lipoprotein cholesterol and reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases . This type of treatment is indeed very effective and contributes to a drop in the level of “ bad ” cholesterol , which helps to reduce the risk of developing CVD and possible complications .The use of statins for 5-6 years helps to reduce probability of developing myocardial infarction by 30-45% and sudden cardiac death , and also reduces the risk of ischemic stroke be 25-30%. As a rule , taking statins in the absence of serious side effects lasts for life .
