The use of photodynamic therapy for the treatment of generalized periodontitis. Literature review

The article analyzes modern data on the possibilities of using photodynamic therapy for the treatment of generalized periodontitis. It has been shown that photodynamic therapy is an optimal, effective, appropriate and free from negative effects method of treating generalized periodontitis. Photodynamic therapy provides an effect that is especially valuable for dentistry, which is absent in drug chemotherapy, namely, a bacteriotoxic effect not only on planktonic flora, but also on activity against pathogenic species associated with biofilm, while simultaneously decontaminating cellular structures compromised by inflammation.
