To date, inflammatory periodontal diseases are one of the urgent problems of modern dentistry. According to WHO, about 98% of the world's population have pathological processes in the periodontium, ranging from simple catarrhal gingivitis, ending with chronic periodontal disease with destruction of bone tissue. Periodontitis is an inflammatory process, which is the most common form of the disease in the population. Periodontitis usually begins with a lesion of the marginal gum, followed by the involvement of all periodontal structures in the inflammatory and destructive process, in particular it concerns the alveolar bone. The basis of chronic periodontitis is the progressive destruction of the dentoalveolar junction, which contributes to the formation of periodontal pockets with further resorption of the bone structures of the alveolar process. Periodontitis is the main factor of tooth loss among the adult population.
