ANALYSIS OF TWO-YEAR SURVIVAL OF ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION DURING THE PANDEMIC IN 2020 AND BEFORE IT IN 2019

Relevance. Limited information is available on the long-term outcomes of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) during the 2020 novel coronavirus pandemic. The aim of the study was to determine the two-year survival rate among patients with AMI during the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) pandemic in 2020 compared to the same period in pre-pandemic 2019. Materials and methods. In a single-centre retrospective study, we assessed the outcomes of patients admitted with acute myocardial infarction during the COVID-19 pandemic (01.10.2020-10.12.2020) compared with patients with AMI admitted during the same period a year earlier. Results. In 2020, 151 people and 289 people in 2019 with AMI applied to the regional vascular center. There was an increase in MI mortality from 4.1% before the pandemic to 9.9% (p=0.04) during the 2020 pandemic. Analysis of relapse-free survival of patients was performed using the method of Kaplan-Meier curves. By the end of the first year in 2020, 82.1% of patients remain from the baseline, and in 2019 88.1%, p = 0.001, at the end of 24 months of observation, 78.2% among AMI patients in 2020 and 83.5% in 2019, p=0.0015. Conclusion. We conducted a retrospective analysis of a large to date case series of patients with AMI during a pandemic in Russia. We found a high mortality and a negative prognosis in the analysis of long-term survival compared to the period before the pandemic of a new coronavirus infection.
