BARIATRIC SURGERY IS A WAY TO TREAT OBESITY

Today, 2 billion people suffer from obesity, while this number continues not only to grow steadily, but also recently to affect young people aged 18 to 45 years. An integrated approach is certainly important for the treatment of obesity, but with it, weight loss rates are very low. That is why today many people resort to bariatric surgery in order to see the effect as early as possible. In this study, an analysis of the literature data on surgical treatment for obesity was carried out. It was revealed that the first attempt at surgical intervention in the treatment of obesity was made in 1950 by Henriksen in Gothenburg. In addition, after bariatric surgery, the weight of patients is significantly reduced by 20-35%, while the lost weight does not return, and the risk of diabetes, myocardial infarction, stroke and cancer decreases.
