THE EVOLUTION OF TELEDENTISTRY CONSULTATIONS: AN ANALYSIS OF ACHIEVEMENTS AND PROSPECTS IN ORAL HEALTH MONITORING

This article examines the application of telemedicine in dentistry. The most common applications of teledentistry are described: remote monitoring of the effectiveness of individual oral hygiene and conducting mass educational programs on disease prevention aimed at raising public awareness of the importance of oral hygiene; and its use in orthodontic practice. Particular attention is paid to the use of teledentistry in surgical practice, in particular, to existing data on the successful remote monitoring of postoperative patients. The prospects for the application of artificial intelligence in teledentistry, as well as the potential of hybrid applications, are discussed. It is established that insufficient digital competence, familiarity with digital platforms, concerns about the quality of remote consultations or data security, a shortage of specialized telemedicine resources and medical personnel, and resistance to change on the part of physicians and patients may hinder the widespread adoption of teledentistry.
