There is disagreement among researchers regarding the specific factors that determine the development of denture socket tissue atrophy in edentulous patients. Some scientists believe that the reduction in alveolar ridge height after tooth loss is a natural biological response, indicating a significant influence of biomechanical forces on bone physiology. Other studies suggest that reduced mechanical stress on the bone leads to a decrease in intraosseous stress and subsequent atrophy. The dynamics of alveolar ridge height reduction are largely determined by local effects associated with the functioning of the denture.
