Metamorphosis Byzantine paradigm: Byzantine style in architecture Western Еurope late XIX – early XX century

This article analyzes the changes in the nature of the adaptation of the Byzantine heritage in Western architecture during the late XIX - early XX century. On an example of how well-known and relatively little studied monuments attempt to recreate a complete picture of the “Byzantine style” in architecture in England, France, Belgium and the Netherlands this period. Showing the historical dynamics of changes in methods and techniques for the development of the Byzantine heritage in relation to planning, design solutions, compositions, facade decoration and interior decoration. Byzantine considered not only as one of the “neostiley” historicist architecture, but also as an integral interstilevoe phenomenon fi gurative and symbolic side of which over time retains a certain constancy, while the side of formal compositional variability demonstrates a fl exible, subject to the principles and techniques of shaping those styles, in which at any given time is referenced to the Byzantine heritage.
