Characteristics of dental health of patients using heroin and methadone

Changes in the dental status of patients taking drugs such as heroin and methadone are characterized by the development of a carious process, inflammatory periodontal diseases, a violation of salivation, the formation and spread of foci of chronic odontogenic infection due to non-compliance with hygienic norms of proper oral care, irregular dental visits, system and a decrease in the protective-adaptive properties of the body. The main feature of the clinical manifestation of oral diseases in this category of patients is a slow and low-symptomal course. Deterioration of the oral mucosa is more pronounced in patients taking methadone due to the development of a local immune response, manifested by inflammation of the allergic genesis.
