Self-sufficiency as an essential feature of the state in Aristotle's «Politics»

Tukalov Vladislav Leonidovich  (post-graduate student, Perm State University)

Sovereignty and state independence are the most important concepts of modern political processes. Without its understanding it is impossible to predict the dynamics of world state-political development. In this study, the author turns to the fundamental work of Aristotle – «Politics», which becomes a basement of state policy. Relying on previously written works, Aristotle defines independence and self-sufficiency as the economic and political basis for the functioning of the state-policy. The main emphasis is maid in the description of the ideal state and its desire for autarky, which characterized the economic basis of freedom, both as an independent state policy and as an individual citizen. The methodological basis of this work is analysis, generalization, description. Despite the widespread use of the concepts of sovereignty and state independence in political circles, the question of the formation of the notion of state sovereignty remains controversial. The scientific novelty of this study lies in the author's attempt to present the ethical-economic and political aspects of the concept of «autarky», described in the works of Aristotle, as a source of modern concept of state sovereignty. Analysis of the Aristotelian concept of self-sufficiency allows us to consider it as a source for the modern category of sovereignty, which is becoming increasingly important in the ongoing state-political processes.
