The issue of mathematical modeling of innovation activity is considered in the article. Brief descriptions of the most common quantitative methods of research and development (R&D) modeling are given and advantages and disadvantages of each of them are listed. The problem of the decision support in manufacturing application of cost-reducing R&D under conditions of data indefiniteness and competition is formulated. As a result game theory, economic analysis and fuzzy sets theory are most appropriate methods for solving the stated problem.
