The process of urbanization in Russia: history and trends

In the article the author deals with the process of urbanization in Russia. The features of the processwere revealed based on the theoretical aspects of the issue and international experience. The author argues that the process of urbanizationin Russia takes place with a delay and a number of differences from foreign countries. The great attention is paid to a detailed analysis of the historical stages of the process in Russia, thereby substantiates the idea that in our country the process of growth in the number and size of cities is closely linked to historical events. The peculiarities of this process at the present stage are analyzed in the article. The trend of urbanization is shown by using statistical data. In conclusion, the author gives the effects of global urbanization. The particular attention is given to the negative consequences of this process: the environmental and socio-economic problems.
